Love Your Enemies

Today I got the opportunity to share a children’s sermon for the first time,at least by myself anyway. I will be taking about loving your enemies. This is a topic that is very hard for me to live out, but after really looking into it I know it’s something I need to work on more and more. Especially in a leadership position.

I don’t necessarily have “enemies.” But rather people who rub me the wrong way.

In the bible Jesus says, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” -Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭43-44‬ ESV

Though I may not have people persecuting me, I have people who make me feel small and inadequate. I have to remember that my God is bigger than them. I am meant to treat them with love in his name.

When asked why we should be kind to our enemies, one of the young boys who attended the sermon replied, “So they can become better people!” When we are kind, we are better people too!

Deep Roots

We all have things happen in our lives. Some of the stick in a deep place than others. Our thoughts and memories are much like the roots of a plant or tree. They start with a seed and grow deeper. Our relationship with Christ can be viewed in the same way. Loving Jesus is the seed. The rest of our beliefs stem from this. Our faith becomes stronger and stronger over the years and we learn and grow in our faith. Our faith roots are, or at least should be, one of the strongest support systems we have. Deep roots help protect plants from storms. They allow the plant to stay grounded. Much like our roots in Jesus can help us get through daily storms.  Weeding one of the many gardens at camp today reminded me of how stoner my God is, how he will be there to take care of and hold me together when I need it most. He also spread out in many directions opening and closing doors in my life… Just like the roots continue to branch out.

I am rooted in Christ, are you?

Hello World!

I’m not usually one to be good with words, but I thought I’d give this a try. Camp seems to be the one place that I feel closest to God. And being at camp has inspired me to write this blog. I’ll write about camp events, how I see Jesus working, scripture, life, and the wonderful world around me.

Here goes nothing!
